AN event which would have seen scores of motorbikes cruise into a Worcestershire town centre has been postponed.

Droitwich was set to welcome 200 bikers as they cruised onto the High Street next week but the event organisers have been forced to postpone it.

Tim Kirkham, a Droitwich Place Board member and lead organizer of Droitwich Bike Night, said that, unfortunately, more time was needed to sort out the event's finer details.

However, it is hoped the event can take place in the near future.

Mr Kirkham said: “Unfortunately, more time was needed to sort out the finer details of the necessary insurance for the event and the time of year also meant it was a challenge to recruit enough stewards because of people’s availability.

"I am grateful for the support of the Droitwich Place Board, Wychavon and Droitwich Town Council, and we’re working together to find another date for the bike night to take place.”

Bike Night was set to take place between 5pm and 9pm on Thursday, August 15.

It aims to allow visitors to socialise with each other and share their passion for motorbikes.

Businesses were set to offer food and drink while several pubs in the town were also going to offer specials on the night.

A spokesperson for Wychavon District Council said: "Unfortunately, the Droitwich Bike Night event on August 15 has been postponed.

"We're working with the organiser on a new date and will let you all know once everything is confirmed.

"We apologise for any disappointment caused and look forward to seeing you all soon.

"Please note: if you are still planning a trip to Droitwich that night, the road will no longer be closed so that usual parking restrictions will be in place."
