THE Ombersley Conservation Trust has been given permission to fix the roof of a listed building just outside the village.

The roof of Adelaide Lodge, in Holt Fleet Road, requires urgent attention according to the trust.

Permission has now been granted by Wychavon District Council, so work including the replacement of roof felt, lead flashings and slate tiles can now take place.

The trust, which owns the building, said: “The proposed works aim to both preserve and enhance the historic nature of Adelaide Lodge.

“The existing roof slates on the house are now no longer fit for purpose, there is no underlay to the finish and the roofing battens are so slender that accessing the roof has become a health and safety issue.

“The polycarbonate infill roof is of poor quality and inappropriate for a grade II listed building and hampers access to the house roof above for maintenance.

“The rooflight is a poor quality 1970s rooflight which is past its lifespan and needs replacing with a more appropriate ‘conservation’ type equivalent.”

The trust said vehicular access to the site is from Holt Heath Road or Parsonage Lane and is not affected by the proposals.

Planning officers said the Grade II listed building dates back to 1840 and is one of several farmhouses built by the Ombersley Estate.

Approving the plans, they said: “The proposed works are not unusual on any historic building.”
