CCTV footage has been released which shows the shocking speed a death crash driver moments before he ploughed into a car, killing all three people inside.

The footage was one of three clips played at Worcester Crown Court on Monday during the sentence of Joe-Lewis Tyler, jailed for 18 years for causing death by dangerous driving and serious injury by dangerous driving.

Video shows the BMW driven by Tyler travelling so fast it registers only as a blur towards the end of the footage as witnesses estimated his speed at between 90mph and 100mph.

The crash killed Leo Painter, six, child escort Claire Adkins, 39, and driver, Courtney Hemming, 26 who all suffered multiple injuries on February 22.

Both Tyler, previously of Grenville Road, Dines Green, Worcester, and his passenger, Miles Smith-Green, also suffered serious injuries.

Meanwhile further witness accounts described Tyler, who had no previous motoring convictions, driving as if he had 'some kind of death wish' and 'like an idiot'.

Video footage and witness accounts illustrated what Judge James Burbidge KC called Tyler's 'cavalier attitude' as he drove through Worcester from the West Midlands Tavern in Lowesmoor, up Tolladine Road and through Warndon Villages before joining Spetchley Road.

The 34-year-old dad had already drunk five pints of lager and four shots of Sambuca and Jägerbombs after winning £100 on the pub's fruit machines.

One witness, who saw Tyler hit standing water on Spetchley Road, describing how the BMW veered over the centre white line and nearly hit her car.

"She was to describe that as being a near-death experience," said Simon Phillips, prosecuting.

Tyler reached speeds above 90mph on the flooded A44 in Spetchley, near Worcester, in the uninsured BMW 3 series when he ploughed into a Ford Mondeo taxi pulling out of a junction onto the main road.

Later blood tests placed Tyler's blood alcohol level at between 103 and 215  milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood (the legal limit being 80) with an average reading of 159.

He was also over the limit for cocaine with a reading of 55 microgrammes per litre of blood (above the limit of 10 microgrammes) and cannabis with a reading of 2.2 microgrammes for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (a cannabis metabolite), above the limit of 2 microgrammes.

The footage was played as Mr Phillips revealed a string of aggravating features to the standard of driving - speeding (90mph in a 50mph road), the defendant being over the limit for both drink and drugs and several 'near misses' before the fatal crash.

"Mr Tyler was seen to drive the BMW erratically, swerving from side to side and changing speed for no obvious reason," said Mr Phillips.

Mr Phillips said: "The car was going so fast that a driver of the car travelling in the opposite direction gave a statement to police that she was fearful for her safety and could not believe how  fast the BMW was going. She estimated it was going 90mph."

Tyler must serve a minimum of two-thirds of the sentence and was banned from driving for 17 years and must sit an extended driving retest if he is to get behind the wheel again.
