A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after someone was seriously injured in a crash.

The 50-year-old was arrested after a crash involving a van and a car on the A44 near Doddenham Hall, Broadwas.

A man in his 20s was seriously injured after becoming trapped by a vehicle and later taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital. 

West Mercia Police closed the road for over an hour while emergency services were dealing with the incident on Tuesday (August 6). 

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Police were called at around 9pm last night (August 6) to a collision involving a car and a van on the A44 near Doddenham Hall.

"Police, fire and ambulance were in attendance.

"A man was trapped in a vehicle and sustained serious but not life-changing or life-threatening injuries. The road was blocked but later reopened.

"A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said two ambulances were on the scene.

"On arrival, we discovered two patients, both men.

"One was treated for potentially serious injuries and one for injuries not believed to be serious before they were both taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment."

A Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "The incident involved a car and van with one person extricated from the car by fire service personnel using hydraulic tools.

"The vehicles were made safe, and two male casualties, one in his 20s and one in his 50s, were handed over to the care of the ambulance service, who attended along with police."
