POLICE are stepping up their search for a missing man who was seen entering the River Severn near the Diglis Bridge.

West Mercia Police said there may be an increased police presence around the area at some point today (Tuesday, July 6) as they continue to search for the man, who has been missing since the early hours of yesterday. 

People living in Worcester were woken to the sound of police sirens and a search helicopter overnight yesterday morning (Monday, August 5).

Emergency services were called to the Diglis Bridge to reports of a man entering a river but so far no one has been found.

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crew from Worcester Fire Station were called to the rescue from water at Diglis Bridge at around 12.36am this morning (Monday, August 5).

Water first responders from Droitwich, boat crews from Worcester and Evesham, the welfare vehicle from Droitwich, the incident command unit and drone from Ledbury and the fire service rescue dog were also called.

A thorough search was carried out by the fire and ambulance service using a service drone, search dog, police dog, and National Police Air Service Helicopter, boat and sledge.  

Ten minutes after fire crews were called, the police and ambulance service were also contacted about a man entering the river. 

After 90 minutes had elapsed the search was called off by the fire service and handed over to police who attended along with the ambulance service.
