THE council has approved plans for an escape room to open in the city centre.

Escape Hunt, which runs venues in Birmingham, Manchester and London, will also be opening a site in Cathedral Square.

The venue will take over the empty unit on the second floor of Cathedral Plaza, between Miller and Carter and Cozy Club.

Worcester City Council has approved a change of use proposal for the unit, which had had permission for use as a restaurant since 2014 but remained vacant.

The council has also given advertising consent for new Escape Hunt signs including an LED screen to be placed on the front of the venue.

Planners said the signage “will not appear over dominant or incongruous and will do any additional harm to the visual quality of the host building”.

One of the conditions attached to the planning approval is that the illuminated signs should be switched off when the escape room is closed to the public.
