POLICE have partially blocked off a main road on the outskirts of the city due to a broken-down vehicle.

The A449 near Sixways was reduced to one lane for nearly two hours while police helped recover a broken-down vehicle. 

According to eyewitnesses, several police officers were seen going down the embankment of the A449 and others were seen signalling traffic away from a white car.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We were called to a broken-down vehicle on the A449 near Sixways, which was blocking the slip road to Blackpole, at around 12.40pm this afternoon (Monday, August 5).

"Officers attended to ensure the safety of those in the car and other road users.

"The road was cleared a short time later."

The road was cleared at 3.34pm.
