VISITORS to a popular city event have been warned to leave their cars at home amid traffic fears.

Worcester Show has encouraged its visitors to find other means of transport to save people money and help the environment.

The message comes after a number of residents admitted they feared "traffic chaos" before the return of Worcester Show this weekend after they experienced "gridlocked" traffic at the Monster Truck Mayhem event last month.

Around 10,000 visitors are expected to visit Pitchcorft this Sunday (August 11) to enjoy a range of local produce, horticulture, and crafts.

Worcester City Council said visitors are encouraged to take the bus, cycle or walk to the show to reduce its carbon footprint.

Sam Lucker, from First Worcester’s marketing team, said: “The Worcester Show is one of the annual highlights in the city’s calendar, and with more than 10,000 people attending and us being one of the key local transport providers, it’s a no-brainer that we’re involved.

“For those coming to enjoy this annual celebration of local produce, horticulture and crafts, we offer a range of bus services, with some operating every 20 minutes.

“To help take the stress out of driving and parking, a single bus trip costs £2, and our special group ticket, allowing up to five people to travel all day, is £10—making bus travel to and from the show the easiest and most affordable option.

“We’re proud to sponsor this year’s show, and we hope that with regular bus services and low fares, we can encourage more people to sit back, relax, and enjoy a journey to and from the area’s premier country show."

Routes will terminate at Worcester Bus Station – just a short walk from Pitchcroft – and the last busses leave after the Show finishes at 5pm.

Worcester City Council has also partnered with Beryl Bikes to provide 15 minutes of free travel.

Beryl is also installing a temporary bay inside the Show’s southern entrance off Pitchcroft car park.

Beryl CEO and co-founder Phil Ellis said: “With this special offer, we hope to encourage as many people as possible to travel to the show in a sustainable manner."
