IN JUST over a week since 40 penguins were released onto Worcester's street more than 3,000 residents have signed up to collect them and they have voted on their favourites.

The penguins are part of The Waddle of Worcester which raises money for St Richard's Hospice and anyone can download the app which costs £1.99 to collect them all.

The app allows users to vote on their favourite penguins and three have come out on top so far, although the waddle still has six weeks left to go and the leaderboard could still change.

1. Doctor Waddlecog of Worcester:

Doctor Waddlecog is Worcester's favourite penguin according to the app.

One of the most unique designs on the trail, Dr Waddlecog of Worcester sports a helmet, a jet pack and a bright orange cape, bringing a ton of fun to Worcester High Street.

It was designed by Kevin Baumber Welderbeasts and sponsored by Yamazaki Mazak.

You can find Dr Waddlecog outside the Crowngate entrance.

2. Waddle I do Without You:

Worcester's second most favourite penguin is Waddle I do Without You.

Waddle I Do Without You really pulls on the heartstrings with a beautifully uplifting design.

Katie Hodgetts incorporated many colourful hearts, plants and flowers into her design, which was sponsored by Gates, Railings and Fencing Limited and can be found on Kleve Walk.

3. Captain Blackbeak:

In third place came Captain Blackbeak.

Captain Blackbeak chooses a pirates life in this brilliantly inventive design.

Designer Jina Gelder has kitted her penguin out in classy pirate attire that would make Jack Sparrow jealous.

The work was sponsored by NAL and can be found around the Diglis footbridge on Bromwich Parade.

Despite raising money for charity, a number of penguins have been damaged either deliberately or by people climbing on them including Worcester's favourite penguin, Dr Waddlecog.

Sara Matthews, business development manager for St Richard's Hospice, said: "Our Waddle of Worcester app allows trail goers to track their way around the city, collect sculptures and hear bonus facts about the local area.

"In a little over a week more than 3,000 trail goers have signed up to the app and more than 90,000 penguins have been collected.

"The app also allows trail goers to vote for their favourite sculptures and we love seeing this feedback.

“With more than six weeks of the great Waddle of Worcester left there’s still plenty of time to vote for your favourite penguin.

"We’re excited to see how the leaderboard changes over the weeks ahead.”
