An eleven-year-old boy has smashed a deep sea diving world record and is now looking to make it 'unbeatable'.

Ethan Evans, from Warndon, recently broke the record for the number of dives completed before the age of twelve which had previously stood at 102.

Aimee Ford, Ethan's mum, said: "Ethan's dad works as a diver and has taken all of our kids diving.

"He first took Ethan diving when he was nine.

"When Ethan turned TEN, he could get an open water certification so he could start diving without an instructor.

"After Ethan got his certification, they saw the record and he decided he wanted to break it."

Ethan has spent six weeks in the Maldives over the summer diving two or three times every day working to break the record.

"He's aiming to reach 150 dives and make it a record that no one else can reach," Miss Ford said.

"He loves it, he's extremely confident and really calm in the water even when he's swimming with manta rays and all kinds of sharks.

"They judge how confident of a diver you are by how much oxygen is still in your tanks when you come back up - it shows how well you control your breathing.

"Ethan often comes back up with more than most adults."

Ethan's love of diving is more than just a hobby, the eleven-year-old would love to move to the Maldives and become a diving guide once he is an adult.

Ethan and his father don't just dive for fun; the pair often take part in clean-up dives searching for items that have polluted the sea, Miss Ford explained: "They go out and search for metal and plastics in the Ocean that shouldn't be there.

"I have a video of Ethan holding this massive metal pole underwater.

"He loves the clean-up dives because he wants to protect the ocean and thinks that it is an important thing to do."
