A MAN has spoken of his shock after vets found a ball bearing lodged in his pet's eye.

Derek Scully, who lives in Storridge, rushed his cat Jasper to an emergency vets in Warndon on Sunday night (July 28) after he came home visibly injured.

Mr Scully said: "We thought he had been in a fight with another cat so we took him to the vets that night, and they thought he had been in a road accident.

"They looked after him overnight, but we took him to the White House Vets in Malvern the next morning."

It was only then that a ball bearing was discovered in Jasper's left eye, leaving no option but for the vet to remove the eye completely.

Mr Scully added: "I was fairly sick when I was told. They spotted a metallic object in Jasper's eye, which has now left him half blind.

"When they showed me the ball bearing, I couldn't believe it - it was almost as big as his eye."

Mr Scully believes the incident took place between 7pm and 10pm on Sunday night, and he reported the incident to West Mercia Police following Jasper's operation on Monday.

West Mercia Police said: "We received a report on July 28 from a member of the public who lives on Crumpton Hill Road in Storridge of a cat returning home with injuries that appear to be inflicted by somebody.

"An investigation is now on going."

Mr Scully said: "It's such a quiet country road, it's bizarre what has happened.

"There's such a thing as a ball bearing gun, but I can't believe that someone living around here would do such a thing.

"We know everyone around here, and the neighbours I have spoken to are horrified."

Jasper is now recovering at home, and Mr Scully added: "He's been very timid since it happened - a little flutter makes him jump.

"He used to go into the wood behind our house and chase the squirrels.

"Hopefully he will be his old self soon."
