SCARED neighbours were woken by the sound of fire engines as a van went up in flames in a quiet cul-de-sac.
Firefighters were called to Admiral Place, St Peter's, in Worcester at about 2.30am this morning (Thursday).
One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: "We didn't know what was going on, we were woken up by the sound of the fire engine that was called but it was really scary.
"We still don't know what happened, whether it just randomly caught fire or it was done on purpose.
"It's scary to think that something like this happened so close to where we live.
"I'm quite tired now to be honest as we didn't get to sleep until around 6am."
The white van was destroyed with police attending the blaze alongside the fire service.
However, the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "One crew from Worcester Fire Station was called at 2.27am on August 1 to a small vehicle on fire in Admiral Place, St Peter’s, Worcester.
"A van was well alight and extinguished by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using one hosereel jet.
"There were no casualties, police attended and the incident was marked as pending closure at 4.03am."
The front of the van was left completely hollowed out by the fire and charred objects had been removed from the blackened remains of the inside.
West Mercia Police have confirmed that they attended the incident but are not currently treating it as suspicious.
This was the second time the fire service has been called out to a vehicle on fire in Worcester this week.
In an unrelated incident on Tuesday (July 30), firefighters had to put out a suspected arson attack in Lichfield Avenue in Ronkswood after an Audi caught fire.
Police are still interested in speaking with anyone who might have information regarding Tuesday's fire and said: "We are also encouraging the community to call us on 101 if they see anyone acting suspiciously around a vehicle."
