THE biggest ever summer fayre on a city estate will help raise vital funds to plug a gap in funding after service cuts as a 'passionate' group of friends bring back the breakfast club.

The Tolladine Summer Fayre is being held at the Tolly Hub, the community centre in Rowan Avenue in Worcester, this Sunday (August 4) between noon and 3pm.

Previous fundraising by the Friends of Tolladine, which has organised the event, is already helping keep services going, including the breakfast club which is due to return next month.

Activities at the fayre include a bouncy castle, face painting, tombola, raffle, football shootout, stalls, cakes and a barbecue.

The fun day also features Asian Kitchen Curry selling Asian Street Food, It's So Fluffy candyfloss and slushies and Matt Fiddes Martial Arts demonstrations and challenges.

Organised by the Friends of Tolladine (which has been going around a year), the fayre is expected to be the biggest fundraiser the group has organised so far.

Chair Rosie Furlong and other Friends hope the fayre will raise funds to fill any gaps in service provision so they can put more in place for the community, including a trip to Barry Island in Wales.

Other committee members instrumental in organising the fayre are Lisa Summer, Abbi Smith, Paul Hill, Anthony Barnes, Paul Edwards, Emma Harding, Dawn Smith and Sue Manton.

Mrs Furlong said: "A group of us decided to get together. We want to make this one of the best, happy days that we can. We have even managed to get a road closure next to the Tolly Centre.

"We are already bringing back the breakfast club in September after it closed due to cuts. It's for families to come along and have a cheap breakfast while combating loneliness. We are definitely bringing that back.

"We want the fayre to be such a success. We want all the community to show up. We just want to raise as much as possible. We're grateful for anything."

She added: "As a group we are passionate about bringing back breakfast at Tolly and provide events for the residents of Tolladine. We want to have some fun times while raising money to support events such as trips to the seaside and bringing the community together."

Mrs Furlong said the Friends had received support from Platform Housing and councillors, including Cllr Adrian Gregson, and Hope Church.

Stores and supermarkets have also donated raffle prizes.

She said it was almost impossible to walk through Tolladine without someone asking about when the breakfast club was coming back.

Mrs Furlong said: "When we ask people in Tolladine what they want, they always say the breakfast club - they want it back."

Anyone can come to the fayre but it is mainly to raise funds for the provision of services in Tolladine.
