Worcester residents' knowledge of their city is set to be tested with a quiz in September.

The BIG Worcester Quiz will be held at the Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum on Foregate Street, on September 6, from 7pm to 9pm.

Attendees are in for an evening filled with nostalgia as their historical knowledge of Worcester comes under the spotlight.

Organisers say knowledge of 1970s petrol stations, historic pubs and local shops will be useful.

Sheena Payne-Lunn, historic environment record officer at Worcester City Council and author of the Worcester Life Stories books, is set to host the event.

In 2020, Ms Payne-Lunn co-led the Worcester Life Stories project, a collaboration between Worcester City Council and Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care Trust.

Just before the project which received funding from The National Lottery was due to launch, the pandemic hit and changes had to be made.

However, Ms Payne-Lunn and her team used photos from the city council's archives to make online quizzes about old Worcester.

A new selection of quiz questions in the same spirit will feature at The BIG Quiz.

Art Gallery and Museum events officer, Tracey Ayre, said: "The online quizzes were hugely popular and there was so much interest in the photos which were gathered.

"We hope that the evening will keep memories of local history alive and be entertaining for all those interested in Worcester past and present."

The entry fee is £5 per person, and participants can form teams of four.

People can either buy four tickets for a team, or a single ticket and be matched up with team-mates on the night.
