SHOCKING footage has emerged of a motorbike speeding along a city footpath as police and a community leader say such actions put pedestrians, including young children, at risk.

The footage, which we have permission to use, shows the motorbike hurtling along a footpath and cycle path in Warndon Villages, just yards from Lyppard Grange Primary School.

Shared on the Warndon Villages Community Group, the person who filmed it described the incident as 'dangerous' and that he intended to report it (although it is not clear at this stage whether police have been informed).

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police urged the public to report such incidents to them as soon as possible.

It is understood the incident happened on Saturday on the path which runs from the main Tesco store in Warndon Villages and runs past the Lyppard Grange nature reserve and the back of the primary school.

Lucy Hodgson, chair of Warndon Parish Council, said she was 'concerned' after viewing the footage and that the primary issue was the safety of the general public.

Cllr Hodgson urged anyone who saw similar incidents to report them as soon as possible as the police have powers to seize motorbikes.

"The speed of the motorbike was totally unacceptable bearing in mind it's a public footpath. That footpath is used by children, families and dog walkers," she said.

Although no parish council meeting takes place in August, Cllr Hodgson said she hoped to see a police representative at the next meeting and that an opportunity for an officer to provide a report was a standing item on the agenda at the start of any meeting.

"We would love to see the police at the parish council meeting. I do know police have the power to seize a motorbike and crush it," she said.

However, no crime reference for the incident has yet been supplied to us although we have shared the video with West Mercia Police.

A police spokesperson said: “It’s illegal to ride off-road motorbikes and quad bikes on public land, and on private land without the permission of the land owner.

“Those who ride on footpaths are showing complete disregard for public safety, putting pedestrians, who are often families with young children, in considerable danger.

“This is something we won’t tolerate, but we need the public to help us by reporting incidents like this and helping us identify those responsible so we can take further action.  This could ultimately see us seizing the bike and it being crushed.

“Anyone with information or mobile phone footage of incidents like this should contact their local safer neighbourhood team.   You can find the relevant team for your area and their contact details here - https://www.westmercia.police.uk/a/your-area/."
