A BUSINESS owner made a coffee and delivered it to a stuck driver to point out the state of the "traffic problem" in Evesham.

Traffic has become such a problem in Evesham that the owner of Brew Bear Coffee Shop set himself the challenge of making a beverage and delivering it to a car before it whizzed away, and to his surprise it was possible.

Rob Robinson said: "Well I'm part of a little podcast called The Sham and we like to focus on the challenges that Evesham faces, one of which is traffic.

"I was stood outside on Saturday (July 27) and saw the queue which is not unusual and wanted to see if it was possible for someone to order a coffee and have it delivered in time.

"I came up with the idea of the video as a demonstration to show how rubbish the traffic situation is.

"It should not be possible to make someone a coffee whilst they are stationary in traffic.

"It's absurd.

"Turns out it is possible, unfortunately in the clip the car moved 50m, but sometimes cars don't move for five or six minutes.

"Evesham has a traffic problem, one of the worst I have ever seen and it's holding the entire town to ransom.

"I own two businesses in Evesham and the traffic problem is affecting footfall and the town visually."

Mr Robinson has been running the Brew Bear for over a year and is currently running for Badsey and Aldington in the upcoming district council elections in August.

Mr Robinson continued: "Who wants to sit in half an hour of traffic, you could get to Gloucester or Worcester in that time, it's nuts.

"I could sell coffee to the traffic all day long but I think there's some legalities with selling to people who are driving, but we do have a click-and-collect option and I'm happy to pop out and give you a coffee.

"It's laughable that this can happen so often, even on a normal day like today (July 30), I'm looking at a queue outside the shop and very few people are walking around.

"In the time it takes to get through Evesham, you can get to Worcester and back which has a lot more to offer which is unacceptable."

Worcestershire County Council has recognised that Evesham residents do have concerns about traffic and said it would continue to work with Wychavon District Council to address the issue.

Councillor Marc Bayliss, cabinet member for highways and transport, at Worcestershire County Council said: “The continual growth in travel demand affects many parts of the UK, but we do recognise the concerns from residents in Evesham with its tight network of narrow roads and limited river crossings.

"Evesham's transport issues with access and congestion cannot be remedied by a simple, single solution.

"We have delivered a number of active travel schemes in the town, including several footway widening schemes to promote shared usage for walkers and cyclists.

"The new Hampton pedestrian and cycle bridge is a significant part of our plans to improve walking and cycling opportunities in Evesham.

"It will provide improved connectivity over the River Avon for pedestrians and cyclists travelling between Hampton, Evesham town centre and other local amenities.

"We are continuing to engage with National Highways and Midlands Connect regarding current issues on the A46 for both short term and long term solutions and for this to be included in future proposals for investment.”
