A FIRE which began in piles of rubbish inside a derelict building is being treated as arson, police have confirmed.
Three crews tackled the fire in a derelict building in Navigation Road in Diglis in Worcester last night and now police have said they are investigating the blaze as a potential arson attack.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Police were called by the fire service a fire in a derelict building on Navigation Road yesterday (25 July). There was no threat to life. The fire is being treated as arson and enquiries are ongoing."
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said two crews from Malvern and one from Upton attended the fire at 5.11pm.
"It was a small fire in a derelict building consisting of rubbish and refuse was extinguished by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using one hosereel jet," said a spokesperson.
The property was naturally ventilated. There were no casualties. Police also attended. The incident was marked as pending closure at 6.49pm.
