A FORMER city pub site now looks unrecognisable as work starts on building a new care home.
The site, which used to be home to the old Harvester and Play Den, on Droitwich Road has been completely transformed as MACC Care begins building its 76-bed care home.
There have been many changes in the past three months, including the demolition of Perdiswell House in April.
The care home's foundations appear to have been laid, including the start of the outer wall construction.
Pictures show a huge yellow crane on-site and a number of cream metal units for the builders.
Building materials can also be seen lying around the site.
Birdseye pictures taken in May showed the site looking completely unrecognisable from its heyday with the building now completely flattened.
It was thought that some parts of the former Perdiswell House dated back to the 1840s.
Worcester City Council’s planning committee gave the green light to demolish the former Perdiswell Harvester and replace it with a 76-bed care home – a year after throwing out a similar plan for being too big.
narrowly backed by councillors.
The plans, which were submitted by MACC Care, wereThe pub in Claines closed its doors in April 2019 after owners Mitchells & Butlers decided to sell up, just three years after investing in a major refurbishment.
Previously, a spokesperson for MACC Care said the building is not listed, is not suitable for conversion and has been assessed as a non-designated heritage asset.
They added: "A new Care Home has recently opened nearby, yet there is a significant need for further care accommodation within Worcester City, which was recognised by the Council’s Planning Officers in recommending approval for the previous application.
"MACC has positively identified this site as a suitable location for care development, with the proposals fully compliant with local and national policy, which encourage development on brownfield sites within the urban area."
