A HEAVYWEIGHT city boxer is due to return to the ring to fight for the title of Britain's hardest man in a bout promoted by Tyson Fury's cousins after he survived being stabbed in the chest.

Jon DP Shaw, of Worcester, who was stabbed twice in the chest, has shown his mettle as he prepares to slug it out for the right to call himself 'Britain's hardest and toughest' man.

The 34-year-old was left with two stab wounds to the chest and a collapsed left lung during an incident on Saturday, June 1 which led to two men being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Mr Shaw walked bleeding to Worcestershire Royal Hospital from Sherriff Street after the incident after a witness described the boxer knocking a man unconscious in a car park.

Undeterred by his injury, Mr Shaw is set to take on 6ft 4ins and 21 stone southpaw Perry Atkinson in the UBL Britain's Hardest and Toughest Men Heavyweight Championship in Coventry on September 28, organised by the cousins of Tyson Fury, Sam and Jerry Gorman.

Mr Shaw, who is 6ft 2ins and 17 stone, said he was looking forward to fighting in one of the biggest unlicensed boxing shows in the country and taking on 'one of the heaviest man I have ever fought'. Atkinson has won his last seven fights.

When asked about the effect of his injury, Mr Shaw said: "It's mind over matter."

He said his three-year-old son, Oscar, had never seen him fight live and he also wanted to 'prove people wrong that said I would not fight again'.

Mr Shaw described Atkinson as 'an awkward opponent' but added: "My prediction is that the job will indeed get done. I haven't lost a fight for the last five years which is 15 fights unbeaten.

"Some said I might struggle to box again but as long as I feel good I don't see the problem."

It is not the first time Mr Shaw has battled through adversity. In 2022 Mr Shaw had a broken hand throughout one bout and broke the other hand in the fight itself during his win over Adam Harris in Swindon.

Mr Shaw also went on to win a fight by knockout in 2023, despite tearing his chest during the bout, an injury which required surgery.
