The Malvern Hiking Challenge has raised nearly £2,000 for essential specialist disability equipment for children.

10 participants undertook two varying treks on the Malvern Hills to fundraise for Newlife The Charity for Disabled Children.

The longer trail involved walking end to end of the Malvern Ridge and back again, racking up a total of 18 miles.

On the other hand, the shorter walk was a one-way, nine-mile distance, from which participants were shuttled back to the beginning point.

Three employees from Newlife’s headquarters in Cannock participated in the event on July 14 and opted for the more demanding hike.

Jo Duggan, director of fundraising and marketing at Newlife, said: “It was a really great day with lots of fun and some fantastic views.

“We also got a lot of satisfaction from knowing that we were raising money for a great cause, which helped to keep us motivated when the going got a bit tough or we started to feel tired.

“Applications for some of Newlife’s services have double in the past year, so fundraising for the equipment disabled children need has never been more vital.

“Equipment such as buggies, wheelchairs, beds and car seats can be life changing as they allow children to safely leave hospital, go to school, attend medical appointments or make the most of every moment.”

Contributing to Newlife can be done in various ways.

From signing up for events such as the Cannock Chase Running Festival in October or the Paris Marathon in 2025 or hiking Ben Nevis at night.

Personal events can also be arranged, such as pub quizzes, bake sales, reading challenges, or physical challenges such as a danceathon.
