AN UP-and-coming vineyard on the Malvern Hills has won several awards at a prestigious ceremony.

Two Beacons Vineyard, located in Colwall, was awarded one gold, two silver and one bronze medal, as well as recognition as the Best Newcomer, at the Wine GB National Awards held on Friday (July 19).

The vineyard produces three distinct wines with their grapes: Bacchus grapes create a still white wine, Pinot Noir Precoce, an early ripening grape, is used for a still red wine and the standard Pinot Noir fruit is used for their sparkling wine.

The Pinot Noir Precoce 2021 was awarded a Gold Medal alongside 55 of the 380 other wines entered into the competition.

The judges at the event, which included founders, buyers and consultants from across the industry, described the wine as: "Floral and red berry scented with a bittersweet palate profile with dried red fruit, floral notes and a touch of leather/cigar."

The 2022 edition of the Bacchus and the 2021 Sparkling Pinot Noir Rose won Silver awards, while the Pinot Noir Precoce 2022 won Bronze.

The vineyard was founded six years ago in 2018 and is owned and managed by the Phipps family.

Pedro Stepien, operations manager at the vineyard, said: "It was absolutely wonderful to win the award as it was the first competition that we had entered.

"We submitted five wines to the event and won with four of them.

"When it was announced we were very surprised and almost ecstatic."

Despite a record number of entries into the 2024 edition of the awards, Two Beacons came away with the best newcomer award for their 2021 Pinot Noir Precoce.

Susie Barrie MW, co-chair of the judging panel said: "I can't recall us ever having such a diverse selection of WineGB trophy winners as we have this year.

"The range of grape varieties and winemaking styles is a testament to just how curious, ambitious and increasingly accomplished the UK's winemakers are.
