An online magazine created by University of Worcester students and staff has been shortlisted for a national award.

The university’s digital sustainability magazine 'Sus Things Out' has been named a finalist in the Digital Futures category for the Green Gown Awards.

Started a decade ago by students, lecturers, and expert practitioners, its content shares stories on how the university's community is addressing climate change and the associated issues.

Sus Things Out highlights diverse events, projects, discussions, and conferences on campus and in the wider community.

Professor David Green, CBE DL, University of Worcester’s chief executive and vice-chancellor, said: "We are delighted that our work on sustainability has once again been recognised, especially by the Green Gown awards which are considered the Oscars for higher education sustainability.

"The Sus Things Out website enables our students to showcase the work they’ve been doing to improve the environment for everybody and inspire people into action."

The project focuses on tackling environmental concerns, from climate change to pollution, to habitat degradation and loss.

The University of Worcester has previously won and been shortlisted for environmental awards.

In 2019, it was named the Sustainability Institution of the Year, and its commitment to electric mobility saw Autotrader Magazine label it as the 'most Electric Vehicle friendly University or College in the UK'.

The Green Gown Awards have been running for twenty years, acknowledging outstanding sustainability initiatives undertaken by academic institutions.

Director of sustainability at the University of Worcester and the founder of Sus Things Out, Katy Boom, said: "I am thrilled to see the online resources we have created with our staff and students being celebrated with a nomination by the Green Gown Awards.

"Sus Things Out was created to help people understand what they can do to improve the world around us while drawing attention to the challenges we all face with sustainability and the environment, and it’s wonderful to see the collective efforts of the whole university community recognised by being nominated for such a prestigious award."
