A children's hospice has been announced as the official partner of an upcoming running event in Worcester.

The Worcester City Runs, celebrating its 10th anniversary, has partnered with Acorns Children’s Hospice, which provides specialist care for seriously ill children and young people in the West Midlands and Gloucestershire.

One of Acorns' hospices is in Worcester.

The event, slated for the weekend of September 14 and 15, is organised by Events of the North with Worcester City Council.

In addition to in-hospice care, the hospice provides support to children and young people in their homes.

Steve Cram, the founder of Worcester City Runs, and former World Champion, recently visited Acorns’ Worcester hospice, witnessing first-hand the work of the care team.

Olympic silver medalist Cram said: "I’m so grateful to Acorns for welcoming me to the hospice in Worcester.

"It was amazing to find out more about the truly phenomenal work that goes on there, and to meet the team and some of the amazing children that benefit from their care.

"We’re so pleased to be working with Acorns as the official charity partner of the Worcester City Runs in our tenth anniversary year.

"We’ll be doing all that we can to communicate that partnership and help the charity to raise funds for the work that makes such a difference to children and young people and their families in this area."

Acorns cares for over 750 children annually and supports nearly 1,000 families.

Acorns’ events manager, Kate Vousden, said: "We’re thrilled to be the official charity partner for Worcester City Runs during their special tenth anniversary year.

"This popular annual tradition is one of the city’s biggest and best events and will shine a welcome spotlight on our vital care for children and families across Worcestershire and the West Midlands.

"We are extremely grateful for the awareness this charity partnership will bring and give thanks to anyone who signs up this year and chooses to fundraise for Acorns."

The Worcester City Runs’ itinerary includes the Worcester City Half-Marathon, the 10K, Paula Radcliffe’s Families on Track, and the Young Athletes Runs for under 11s and under 15s.
