After being called to the scene, fire crews rescued the man from underneath the lift before leaving him in the care of the ambulance crews.

Ambulance staff were called to the store at 5.39pm, where they sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance.

Life support and trauma care were given to the man at the scene before he was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “Upon arrival, we found a man in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

"Ambulance staff administered advanced life support and advanced trauma care to him at the scene which continued en route to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was conveyed by land ambulance.”

Three Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – two from Worcester and one from Hereford Fire Stations – were called at 5:43pm.
