Residents in Worcester could see their bin collection dates change later this month.

Worcester City Council is shifting to a 'same material, same week' model starting from July 29.

Half of Worcester's households will witness a change in their waste collection schedule as part of the bid to improve efficiency and manage recyclables and waste in a more streamlined manner.

For the week of July 29, all residents will have their black bins emptied, with their green bins collected the week after, establishing the sequence for subsequent collections.

At present, black and green bins are collected alternately in different areas each week.

Almost 23,000 homes affected by this change will need to put out their black bins two weeks in a row, in the weeks of July 22 and 29, following which they can revert to the regular cycle of green bins one week, black bins the next.

Cllr Karen Lewing, vice chairwoman of Worcester City Council’s environment committee, said: "The one thing people need to remember is that, in the week of 29 July, it’s their black bin that needs to go out."

She added: "We are going to great lengths to make sure that all the residents who will see a change in bin services are fully aware of what is happening.

"The reality is that, once we get through 29 July, bin collections will settle down again into the normal pattern of black bins one week and green the next."

The council is contacting every affected household about the changes, providing green bags for extra waste, accessible at the Guildhall if needed.

Slightly more than 200 homes will have their collection day changed, informed via direct letters from the council.

The changes do not impact brown garden waste bin collections.

Clarification regarding bin collection days can be sought from the council's website.
