A SEMI-DETACHED house in Ronkswood will be converted into a six-bed HMO.
Worcester City Council has approved plans for the conversion of the four-bedroom house in Carlisle Road despite objections from neighbours.
Plans submitted to the council say the house was previously home to a family of nine.
The only planned developments are internal, including the subdivision of some rooms and the creation of new doorways.
The house will become a six-bedroom house of multiple occupation (HMO) with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities, and three parking spaces.
The residents will have shared access to a back garden and a secure shed with cycle storage for six bikes.
The city council’s housing team said the proposed layout is suitable for a HMO and county highways said the number of parking spaces was adequate.
But residents had concerns over the plans.
Alan Parker said: “This is a very bad idea for the area, it is already congested with cars.
“The road and parking in this area is already bad without this house being turned into flats.”
Jen Morris said: “There are limited parking spaces available at the property and the road is always very busy.
“The potential for six more vehicles at the property may cause parking and visibility issues.
“Multiple occupancy could also increase the noise at the property.”
Saheed Iqbal said: “The introduction of an HMO is likely to lead to a significant increase in noise levels and general disruption.
“Furthermore, the prospect of additional strain on parking facilities is particularly troubling, as the area already faces challenges in accommodating the vehicular needs of current residents, plus this is at a time the council are about to issue significant additional parking restrictions with double and single yellow lines.
“I trust that the planning committee will weigh these concerns with the attention they warrant and arrive at a decision that upholds the interests and well-being of the community.”
