A HEREFORD man has been charged with rape after Hereford's Cathedral Close was cordoned off.
West Mercia Police said Christopher Filbrandt, 31, of Eign Mill Road in Hereford has been charged with rape.
The charge relates to an incident in the grounds of Hereford Cathedral on Friday 12 July 2024.
He has been remanded in custody to appear at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court today (July 15).
Police were called to Hereford's Cathedral Close in the early hours of Friday morning after receiving a report that a woman had been raped in the cathedral grounds at around 3am.
The Cathedral Close was cordoned off at all entrances throughout Friday morning, with police officers visible at the scene.
Detective Inspector Ben Pearson said at the time that he understood the incident would cause "significant concern" but that officers were carrying out a thorough investigation.
He said there would be an increased police presence near the cathedral as enquiries were carried out and that the victim is being supported by specially trained officers.
Police later released a CCTV image recorded at a Hereford nightspot of a man they wanted to speak to in relation to the report, with the man swiftly identified.
A police spokesperson confirmed later on July 12 that a 31-year-old man had been arrested and was is in custody as enquiries were ongoing.
