Members of a paediatric team got their walking boots on for a 12-mile charity trek.

The Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust paediatric team walked the Malvern Hills on Sunday (July 14).

The walk raised funds for bereavement care within the children's department of the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Members of the hospital's Play Team took on the challenge.

The team comprises of healthcare specialists trained in therapeutic play techniques to support children and young people during their stay in hospital.

They work with children and their families to alleviate anxiety, foster understanding, and make hospital stays more pleasant.

The team also offers support to parents, guardians, and loved ones during challenging times, particularly the death of a child.

They help craft mementos, such as hand and foot casts, hair locks, or prints for jewellery making to help families keep a meaningful and comforting connection with their child.

Jennie Williams, a nurse at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "Losing a child is unimaginable, and we do our best as a department to comfort families during this time.

"The incredible mementos the play team creates offer families a physical memory of their child.

"Our mementos are funded by The Paediatric Ward and the Play Team themselves, and by supporting our fundraising walk, we can continue to offer this service to many more families."
