It’s been quite the Euros rollercoaster for England this tournament, from plenty of extra time to a penalty shoot-out.

We were left on the edge of our seats on Wednesday (July 10), following Ollie Watkins’ last-minute goal in the semi-final against the Netherlands.

Watkins’ 90th-minute strike in Dortmund earned a 2-1 victory to send Gareth Southgate’s side through to Sunday evening’s (July 14) final against Spain.

But among the celebrations for The Three Lions throughout Euro 2024, football fans have noticed Jude Bellingham’s socks appear to have holes in when he appears on the pitch for each match.

England fans left confused over Jude Bellingham's holes in socks

Some have even taken to social media in confusion, asking why the 21-year-old wears ripped socks.

Posting on X, this person questioned: “Why have Jude Bellingham's socks got holes in??#NEDENG”

Another queried: “What is it with Jude  Bellingham's holy socks?!! Same socks? Lucky socks? Bad socks??”

One account wrote: “Never seen gaps on the back of socks like this before. Seems obvious (to me) that Jude Bellingham purposely tore them to create this look. Creative.

“All the high school kids will be doing it now.”

This user joked: “Jude Bellingham doesn’t skip leg day, how can his calves tear out his socks like that?”

However, the truth is Bellingham and other football players purposely cut holes in their socks (and it’s not to create a fashion statement).

Tearing the fabric that can be quite tight on footballers’ legs relieves pressure and helps avoid injury to their calves and shins.

The socks can sometimes cause problems due to being restrictive and effect blood flow and circulation.

England player Kyle Walker began doing this trick a few years ago, as reported by The Mirror.

He explained: "The socks were actually too tight so it was causing pressure on my calves.

“It was just to release my calves - or release the tension.

“I just cut holes in them and all of a sudden I had a few alright games, and I was like, 'ok, I'm keeping this now!'"
