A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of rape after an alleged incident in the grounds of Hereford Cathedral in the early hours of this morning (July 12).
Officers received a report of a woman being raped in the grounds at around 3am.
A 31-year-old man has now been arrested and he is in custody as enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Inspector Ben Pearson said: “I understand that this incident will cause significant concern within the local community, but I’d like to reassure the public that we are carrying out a thorough investigation.
“The victim is been supported by specially trained officers.
“Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, and may have seen anything or have information or dash-cam footage, which may help with the investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”
The Cathedral Close was cordoned off by police today but has reopened this afternoon.
