A young student at Pershore College, who has been praised as "future PHD standard", has been named Student of the Year for the second year running.

The double crown, which has never been achieved before, was awarded to 18-year-old Hope Andrews.

It followed the completion of her Level 3 Animal Management course.

The Bromsgrove native was also the winner of the Animal Welfare Student of the Year award during the WCG Student Awards ceremony.

Not just that, but Ms Hope massively impressed Ofsted inspectors.

One praised her work as "being the quality of a future PHD student".

Distinction level coursework won her a conditional offer from Harper Adams University to further study Animal Behaviour and Welfare.

She said: "It’s definitely something I wasn’t expecting, especially after winning last year, so it’s really nice to be a winner again.

"The last year has been really interesting and I’ve really loved all of the assignments around exotic animals.

"I’m looking forward to continuing my studies and continuing to develop.

"I’d love to work with exotic animals in the future, so something like zookeeping or working with reptiles is my long-term plan!"

Head of department Becky Brannigan praised the young whiz for her achievements: "Hope fully deserves to be recognised for her hard work and is a deserving recipient of the subject award and overall Student of the Year.

"One of the Ofsted inspectors was so impressed by the standard of her work and they personally congratulated Hope on its quality."

Pershore interim centre manager, Josh Egan-Wyer, described the student as a "brilliant ambassador for our college."

The award ceremony held at Pershore College recognised students studying a wide range of subjects.

A total of 17 awards were presented on the evening, celebrated by an audience comprising students from Evesham New College as well.
