A BUZZ is in the air as city pubs busy themselves gearing up for the Euro 2024 final as Southgate's men prepare for one of the biggest football games in England's history.

Football fever is rising as many pubs across Worcester prepare to show the big game between England and favourites Spain on Sunday as fans hope the game will at last end the 'years of hurt'.

The match follows the team's scintillating win over the Dutch on Wednesday night when substitute Ollie Watkins sealed victory over the Netherlands with a stunning late goal.

Large crowds are expected to descend on the city centre's pubs and bars to watch the UEFA Euro 2024 match at Olympiastadion Berlin which is scheduled to kick off at 8pm.

One landlord, Matt Collins of the King's Head in Sidbury in Worcester, had to order in a new TV became the games were proving so popular with customers. The pub already had six screens but he felt a lucky seventh was needed.

"Having so many screens means I can spread people out so everybody is comfortable without feeling like they're in a sardine tin," he said.

Football fans are spoiled for choice for places showing the match, including Mode and Tramps which has 'the biggest screen in the city'. There are more than 20 screens in that venue alone.

Other, smaller pubs are showing the game such as The Imperial Tavern in St Nicholas Street - but the venue is already fully booked.

Fred Jones, landlord of the Imperial Tavern in Worcester, said: "From the word go I have been fully booked for the game with exactly the same people. We're not a big pub. I've got 56 people already booked for Sunday - the same 56 people that have watched the previous five games.

"We're already at capacity. It's been great for trade. The game last night (Sunday) was a massive boost to trade."
Mr Jones said the tournament had been particularly good helping with off-peak trade such as midweek games and Sundays, including England's semi-final win.

"For the first time, rather than just being blindly optimistic, I have a feeling England will win. I think it will come home," he said.

"Every England game we have been extremely busy. It’s been amazing to see. With great atmosphere and great friendly people coming though the doors to enjoy the football, I  believe Sunday will be very busy. We have walk ins only.

"I hope every pub in St John’s is busy and everyone comes out and enjoy the great game in the pub and support your local pubs."

Matt Collins of The King's Head in Sidbury said trade had been brilliant for the semi-final and they were fully booked now for the final.

"The atmosphere was great. We have got 211 bookings for Sunday. We hope it will come home. I think the country needs some fun and excitement," he said.
