Severn Trent's plans to improve river health and provide financial support across the Midlands have been given the green light.
The company has been approved for a significant multibillion pound investment programme by Ofwat, who hailed their approach as 'outstanding.'
The major investment aims to boost the Midlands' economy, with plans to improve river health, secure water supply for future generations, and keep bills affordable for customers.
The proposition also includes a £575m affordability package, set to support more than 700,000 customers, twice the current number.
Additionally, the massive infrastructure project across the region, which includes £2bn set aside for storm overflows and river quality, will also bring a record investment into the economy.
It is estimated to generate up to 7,000 new jobs directly and through the supply chain.
Chief executive Liv Garfield said: "Our customers told us what mattered most, and we listened.
"This multibillion-pound investment will bring huge benefits to our region now and for generations to come with a secure water supply of the best quality, reducing impact on rivers down to nearly zero, whilst importantly keeping bills affordable and helping anyone who needs extra support."
Furthermore, Severn Trent customers will continue to enjoy the second lowest bill in England.
The ambitious plan was shaped by nearly 70,000 Severn Trent customers, ensuring the delivery incorporates what matters to people in the region.
This includes accelerated improvement of river quality, with an additional £450m invested at 900 locations in the Midlands to reduce spills by 20 per cent a year.
Ms Garfield added: "Our dedicated team of around 9,000 Severn Trent employees have enabled us to be recognised as an outstanding company by Ofwat and we now stand ready to deliver the thousands of exciting projects that will make a huge difference to our customers and communities."
The new investment round is set to start in April 2025.
The regulator Ofwat has approved thousands of new projects which will be delivered over the next five years.
Documenting the fine details of the plan will continue with Ofwat until the 'Final Determination' is issued in December.
