The PTA at Whittington C of E Primary School in Worcester has opened a brand new activity trail at the school.
The unveiling took place at the school's summer fair on June 28, 2024, following 18 months of fundraising.
The ambitious activity trail replaces an older version that had fallen into disrepair.
With their sights set on £5,000, the PTA kicked off fundraising efforts in January 2023.
The community rallied around, raising money through various methods including school discos, sponsored readathons, and ice pop sales.
But the crown jewel of the fundraising initiative was last July's sponsored colour run—it raised more than £2,000 alone.
It wasn’t just the parents and students who dug deep, though. The project was given a generous boost in March this year as Wychavon Council, with the support of Councillor Linda Robinson, granted a further £5,000.
This welcome boost meant the project could go ahead as planned.
The grand opening celebration was attended by various dignitaries.
Headteacher Kelly Leeming, Councillor Linda Robinson, and Whittington Parish Councillors Helena Barrett and Richard Boase joined parents and students in attendance.
The event highlighted the spirit of community collaboration and unwavering dedication of the PTA.
Natalie Austin, chairperson of the PTA, was full of praise.
She said: "We are so incredibly grateful to school parents, our local community, and in particular, Cllr Linda Robinson.
"Were it not for the generosity of all these people, the old activity trail would have been removed and unlikely to have been replaced.
"We're so proud that our collective hard work has meant that children will be able to enjoy the activity trail for the next 15+ years.
"Huge thank you to our dedicated PTA team, who spend hours of their time planning our exciting events, researching grants, and enhancing the educational experience of our children whilst they are at school."
The new activity trail stands as a central feature of the school's playground.
This lasting testament to community spirit and hard work is expected to provide joy and physical activity for Whittington students for many years to come.
