PEOPLE across Worcestershire looked up to the skies in amazement and confusion as an extremely low-flying RAF plane soared over the county. 

It was first spotted flying over the Malvern Hills at around 5.15pm yesterday (Tuesday, July 9) before moving up to Bromyard.

 It flew over Worcester at around 5.30pm and was also spotted in Droitwich, Evesham and Upton-Upon-Severn.

The plane also went straight over the M5, just past junction 5. 

It may have also been possible to see the plane in Ledbury. 

The plane circled around the area three times in total before heading towards Tewkesbury. 

The aircraft was an Airbus A400M Atlas Royal Airforce plane. 

People took to social media to share photographs and videos of the aircraft.

Many on the Droitwich Spotted Facebook page said the plane scared the life out of them.

One said: "The plane came over twice, the first time was right over the top of the house and we thought it was going to crash."

Another wrote: "Never in all my years here have I seen any so low or remotely low, it was loud as anything too."

Matt Nicol of Nicol and Co. was coaching the Droitwich under 14s Rugby team at Droitwich Rugby Club when the plane flew over and he was able to capture a video of it.

The plane flew over the rugby club twice, with the first time being particularly low. 

He said: "It was a shame as I didn't have my camera handy the first time, but the second time it flew past the boys shouted 'Matt it's back' and I was able to quickly get my phone ready.

"It was ace to see it fly over, it was pretty shocking for some of the lads, but it was certainly something a little bit different."

The Atlas has the ability to carry a 37-tonne payload over 2,000nm to established and remote civilian and military airfields. 

It is able to hold as many as 116 fully-equipped troops and has a 
147ft 11in length, a height of over 48ft and a wingspan of almost 140ft.
