ACTION has been taken in the bid to evict 'travellers' who have illegally taken refuge at a park in Evesham.
Police have told the Journal they have been made aware of an illegal encampment in Charity Brook Park.
An eyewitness told the Journal they believed this was a traveller encampment.
Wychavon District Council's head of client services, Tim Lewis, has said court proceedings were under way to secure an eviction notice to move the illegal encampment.
Mr Lewis said the council expects the encampment will be moved off Charity Brook Park by the end of the week.
Officers from West Mercia Police's Safer Neighbourhood Team said they are monitoring the site closely.
Police are also working with Wychavon District Council to resolve the issue.
After the encampment is off the site, council contractors will carry out a clean-up of the site.
The authority is also reviewing security measures at the park to see what more can be done to protect the site.
