TWO men accused of the attempted murder of a city boxer are due to face trial after denying the charge.

Daniel Smith and David Smith denied the attempted murder of Jon DP Shaw when they appeared at Worcester Crown Court on Monday.

As previously reported, 33-year-old dad, Jon DP Shaw, was stabbed through the chest on Saturday, June 1 and suffered a collapsed lung which required treatment at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester.

Daniel Smith, 36, of Cranham Drive in Warndon, Worcester is charged with attempted murder, criminal damage to property valued under £5,000 and possession of a knife blade / sharp pointed article in a public place.

David Smith, 34, of Raleigh Close, Dines Green, Worcester is charged with attempted murder and driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

At the plea and trial preparation hearing the trial date was fixed for November 18 and it was noted that a pre-trial review will be fixed in due course.

Mr Shaw is a heavyweight boxer, boxing coach and promoter who lives in Worcester.
