A VILLAGE whose population has grown almost tenfold in the last ten years is hoping to bring the community together after a successful inaugural fayre.

Whittington will be holding its second-ever village fayre this month to bring people together as well as raise money for charity.

The fayre, organised by Whittington Community Events Group, is on Saturday, July 13 and is free to enter.

All the profits raised during the event will be donated to St Richard's Hospice.

Adam Hooper, chairman of Whittington Community Events, said: "Whittington is a small village that's over 400 years old.

"In the last ten years, we have had two huge housing estates built and we have gone from 110 houses to around 900.

"In 2023 we started Whittington Community Events and put on our first summer event, although we had typical British weather, around 1,500 people visited and we managed to raise £400 for St Richards.

"We had lots of amazing people saying just how much they enjoyed it and that we should have started it years ago."

The fayre starts at 11am at Pond Farm and will include live music, a dog show, local stallholders, bouncy castles as well as food and drink.

Mr Hooper continued: "We are all really excited, it's been a lot of work that boils down to one day.

"We did a survey of stallholders last year and 90 per cent said they would come back.

"We are not Glastonbury, we are a little village and a little community raising money for charity.

"It's nice to take a few steps back to see everyone having such a great time."

The group also holds free film nights for the community every two months and ran a Santa sleigh at Christmas that raised over £2,000.

Mr Hooper said: "Last year was just absolutely brilliant and St Richard's Hospice is such a great charity.

"You will never meet nicer people and you will struggle to find someone in Worcester with no experience with them.

"People deserve end-of-life care, the ultimate goal is to raise as much money as possible."
