As anticipation for the Waddle of Worcester ramps up, Droitwich Spa Hospital has teased the design of its penguin.

Staff and doctors at the hospital, which is part of the Circle Health Group, have revealed a sneak peek of their 'Blue Penguin'.

It was crafted by designer Petr Horacek for the summer event, which is raising funds for St Richard's Hospice.

The hospice provides critical care and support for patients and their loved ones in the area.

The staff at the hospital have said they are eager to give something back to the hospice, especially as it has cared for friends and relatives of hospital staff.

The 'Blue Penguin' will form part of a trail for tourists and residents to complete over the summer.

After the event, the penguins will be auctioned off, and all proceeds will go to the hospice.

The hope is that the hospital can buy its penguin back at the auction and then relocate it to its site.

The hospital's penguin will join 39 others on the trail.

Claire Davenport, executive director of the hospital, said: "St Richard’s Hospice makes an enormous difference to families across our community.

"As a hospital, we have seen first-hand the impact their work has had on a member of our own family.

"It means a great deal to us all at Droitwich Spa Hospital to be able to support such a great organisation and to honour the memory of much-loved friends and family.

"The Waddle of Worcester is a fabulous and fun initiative with an incredible cause at the centre of it, and we cannot wait for the launch and to see "Blue" in the city." The penguin will go on full display on Monday, July 22.
