THE city centre will turn into a cacophony of colour, music, and eccentric floats as the Worcester Carnival returns this weekend.
The event has grown bigger and bigger since its return in 2017, and last year saw 30 groups of schools, community groups, and businesses take part in its showpiece event - the parade.
The Worcester Carnival is anticipated to be even bigger this year, so here's everything that you need to know in preparation for Worcester's next major city-wide spectacle.
When does it start?
Worcester Carnival takes place on Saturday, July 6, with entry into Carnival Village and entertainment in Cathedral Square starting from 11am before the parade begins at 3pm.
What's the parade route?
It begins in Carnival Village, at Pitchcroft, before taking a 1.7 mile route around Worcester city centre via Castle Street, Foregate Street, High Street, Pump Street, City Walls Road, Deansway, and Croft Road before finishing at Pitchcroft by 5pm.
What else is happening on the day?
The Carnival Village will be an ideal starting point for visitors, opening from 11am until 7pm. Alongside watching the parade start and finish from here, the Carnival Village will feature funfair rides, live music, and craft, food, and drink stalls set-up by local charities, artisans, and producers.
Alternatively, Cathedral Square will host live music performances too. The entertainment begins at 11am and concludes at 3pm, as the parade gets underway.
How much does entry cost?
Entry into Carnival Village is entirely free, whilst spectators can follow the parade throughout its route without any tickets required. Funfair rides cost £3 each, or festival-goers can purchase an unlimited ride wristband on the day for £6.
Will there be road closures?
Roads along the parade route will be subject to rolling closures on the day from 2pm until the event finishes at 5pm, and Worcester Carnival has advised visitors to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
Is there any parking available at the Carnival Village?
The organisers have advised that Pitchcroft Moors Car Park will be closed at its southern end, however its northern end will be open - with limited spaces due to residential parking. Access to other car parks in the city could be affected due to temporary road closures.
