WORCESTER streets fell quiet for 120 minutes on Sunday evening as England football fans filled the city's pubs.
It was almost a night to forget for Gareth Southgate's men, with England trailing Slovakia by a goal-to-nil until Jude Bellingham's bicycle kick drew the Three Lions level with a minute of injury time to go.
Matt Collins, landlord at The Kings Head, said: "Well it was a cracking day overall, but there wasn't a party atmosphere until those final seconds of the game.
"The relief from everyone in the pub was absolutely amazing.
"I didn't really see much of extra time though - the bar was far too busy!"
Harry Kane's opening goal in the opening two minutes of extra time gave something for England to hold onto, and they sealed their place in the quarter finals of Euro 2024 with a 2-1 win.
The tournament has led to a big increase in trade for pubs across the city. The Oak Apple's landlord, Gavin Casey, said: "The atmosphere has been really good; when goals have gone in we have been ringing the bell behind the bar.
"We have had plenty of new faces, friendly and well behaved customers as well.
"The Euros has brought people together and hopefully that will continue."
The Worcester Arms has seen a boost too, as England have continued to progress through the tournament. Staff member, Evie Wall, said: "Our regular locals have been in during the games and they bring a great atmosphere with them."
Keen England fan Mohammad Bakathir has enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere at The Crown pub, adding: "Everyone here is really friendly and it has been great watching England here."
England's attention now turns to their quarter final tie next Saturday, July 6, as they lock horns with Switzerland at 5pm. For pubs such as The King's Head, it's one to look forward to.
Matt added: "Our regulars have just about booked up every table for next Saturday, but we will have space for walk-ins in the garden.
"We expect it will be very busy and we're hoping for another great atmosphere.
"If England win, I reckon people will stay out and party all night!"
