AN under-the-radar NHS team that reminds older generations they're not alone has been shortlisted for an award.

Worcester and Droitwich Older Adult Community Mental Health Team (WDOACMHT) has finally been recognised for its hard work, having been nominated for the NHS Team of the Year Award.

The team was nominated as part of the Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards, which aims to recognise and award the best in the sector.

Victoria Palmer, team manager for WDOACMHT, said: “On behalf of everyone in the team I would like to say a huge thank you for our nomination, we are all absolutely thrilled.

"Each and every one of us is extremely proud of the service we provide, and it feels so lovely for this to be acknowledged.

"There are so many more of us than are captured in the photo and I personally want to thank everyone in the team for making it such an amazing place to work.”

Emma Harvey, who nominated the team, said it does not often get recognised for the work it does for the older generation.

She added: "For the patients involved, the impact has been so rewarding and has helped them so much that they are now living their lives to the fullest.

"This team doesn't get the recognition it needs and I would love them to win, so people are aware that there is help out there for the older generation and that they aren't alone."

The Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards 2024 are organised by Newsquest, publishers of the Worcester News, Malvern Gazette, Evesham Journal, Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Advertisers and The Shuttle.

There are 12 categories in total - NHS Team of the Year, Palliative Care Award, NHS Hero, Care Home Worker or Team of the Year, Health Care Employer Award, Good Nurse Award, Child & Adolescent Health Care Award, Dementia Carer Award, Mental Health Award, GP Practice of the Year, Domiciliary Care Worker Award and Oral Health Care Professional of the Year.

The awards will culminate in a black-tie dinner at the Bank House Hotel in Bransford on Thursday, September 19, where the winners will be announced.
