A BOXER who suffered a collapsed lung after he was stabbed twice in the chest during an alleged attempted murder has recorded an anti-knife message.

Jon DP Shaw had been discharged from Worcestershire Royal Hospital after he suffered two stab wounds to the chest during an incident in Sherriff Street in Worcester.

The 33-year-old was left with two stab wounds during an incident on Saturday, June 1 which led to two men being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Heavyweight boxer and dad-of-one Mr Shaw recorded the message on his public Facebook page as he stood outside Worcester Cathedral.

He said: "What's been happening lately in this city is remarkable in the sense that it's concerning - concerning it should be to parents having their children grow up in a society that seems to be ever-changing.

"It seems to be acceptable nowadays that people use weapons, move around with weapons, move around with knives and, more importantly, not only are they moving around with them, they don't seem to be afraid to use them to take people's lives, to injure, to seriously hurt.

"And that brings us on to the boxing - what boxing brings to the community. It gets these youngsters off the streets. It gets these youngsters out of trouble."

He went on to describe his own boxing club as 'a community'. "Not only are we going to stop people carrying knives, using the sport as a vehicle, we're also going to stop people using knives and getting hurt by knives," he said.
