A new sub-contractor has been appointed to take on the remaining steel work on Kepax Bridge.

Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd, the contractor for Worcestershire County Council, made the appointment to complete the welding of the pylon and curved segment of the bridge, which commenced Monday, June 10.

A large crane and supplementary materials will be brought to the worksite on Wednesday 26 and Thursday, June 27.

Other sections of the bridge, which is in Gheluvelt Park, will be delivered and lifted into place in July.

After each section of the bridge is installed, there is still further tasks to be completed ahead of the structure becoming operational.

The completion of this phase is dependent on weather conditions, and thus, schedules may change.

In April the construction of the bridge had been delayed due to the bankruptcy of sub-contractor, SH Structures.

Mr Griffiths was therefore tasked to find a replacement.

Despite these issues, and prior flooding, leaders from Worcestershire County Council confirmed the project was still expected to be finished within the year.

While the new subcontractor was in the process of being appointed, work continued on the west side of the river, including the laying down of drainage systems, landscaping activities such as planting trees, and groundwork for the new elevated walkways and access roads.
