GYPSY millionaire Alfie Best has hit out at 'unsupportive' locals in a Herefordshire village after putting his golf club on the market.

The millionaire, whose Wyldecrest Parks company owns Saltmarshe Castle Residential Park just outside of Bromyard, recently quit the UK for Monaco.

Mr Best has become a controversial figure in the Bromyard area after his hotel, the Hop Pole in the town's market square, which was recently sold at auction, fell into disrepair amid a planning battle.

Sapey Golf Club, which falls into the Herefordshire Council area, is now on the market with agents Savills for a guide price of £1.8 million.

And now Mr Best has spoken out after the sale advertisement was posted on a local social media group.

In a post on Facebook, Mr Best said he has "enjoyed watching the gossip from a few people who love to be an expert and have done nothing for their community".

The millionaire said he had invested millions in the local area, and that he had saved Sapey Golf Club from closing, extending the clubhouse and completing lodges on the golf course.

"This has not been easy," Mr Best said, claiming it had been "a total uphill struggle with the council blocking us to the point we took them to appeal and won every time".

"The local residents of Sapey have not been supportive in any way," he wrote, thanking the club's members for their support.

Mr Best said Wyldecrest's only investment in the area will now be in Saltmarshe Castle Residential Park.

"If I may be so bold to say to all the people who have supported us along the way thank you and a big thank you to the residents of Saltmarshe Castle who Wyldecrest will continue to support," he said.

"I have over the years invested in many areas around the world and will continue to do so," said Mr Best, urging Bromyard Town Council to "rise up to Herefordshire Council".

"I can say there are some good people in Bromyard council they just need for the community to support more with positivity in my opinion," he said.
