COMMUNITY leaders have spoken of their shock after a stabbing outside a Worcester pub as one councillor branded knife crime 'a blight' while the hunt continues for the suspect. 

A man was injured during the stabbing outside the Prince of Wales pub in Windermere Drive in Warndon in Worcester at 9.30pm on Sunday.

The last reported update from West Mercia Police today (Tuesday) was that no arrests had yet taken place in relation to the incident after police searched for a suspect.

Although the victim's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, the incident has caused concern in Warndon, including from the estate's two Labour city councillors, Cllr Jill Desayrah and Cllr Ed Kimberley.

Cllr Desayrah said: “I’m disappointed and concerned to hear of this incident. My experience of Warndon has only ever been positive. There is a really strong community spirit where neighbours look out for each other, so news like this is a shock for everyone. My thoughts go out to the victim and hope they make a speedy recovery.”

Cllr Kimberley said: ""Knife crime is on the rise at the moment, and is a blight on the community. People deserve to feel safe in their own neighbourhood, without the persistent worry and threat of violence.

"I hope the police are able to apprehend the culprit swiftly, and as always, would urge any member of the public who has information that could lead to their arrest to take it forwards to West Mercia Police."

On Monday West Mercia Police detective inspector Mark Davidson, said: “I know this is an alarming incident but I’d like to reassure the local community that we’re doing everything we can to locate the suspect, and that this is believed to be an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public.”

A spokesperson for the Prince of Wales pub did not wish to comment however did state the incident did not happen inside the pub. 

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said on Monday: "We were called to the Prince of Wales pub on Windermere Drive at 9.30pm last night following a report that a person had been stabbed.

"Officers attended and carried out a thorough search of the area but the suspect could not be located. 

"The injuries suffered by the victim are not life-threatening."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a patient who had been stabbed on Windermere Drive at 9.31pm on Sunday night, one ambulance and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was treated for injuries not believed to be serious, before being taken to hospital."

A witness said they saw three police vans and a police car at around 10.30pm and police had left the scene by 11.30pm.

The car park of the Prince of Wales pub was cordoned off by police. 

The cordon was removed by 9am on Monday. A car has been spotted on the grass verge in front of the pub with damage to the front and back, wrapped in police tape, however police have not confirmed whether it is related to the same incident.
