A MAN in his 60s has been rescued from a narrow boat near Worcester.

The narrowboat had become standard in the centre of the River Severn after running aground on a sandbank at Bevere Lock.

A Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A HWFR crew from Worcester Fire Station plus boat crews from Worcester and Evesham and Evesham’s water first responders were called at 5.07pm on June 8 to a rescue of persons from a boat at Bevere Lock, Worcester.

"A narrowboat was stranded in the centre of the river after running aground on a sand bank. A man in his 60s was rescued fit and well by fire service personnel using a sled.

"No other emergency services were required."
