Worcestershire pet owners are being asked to check their cat's and dog's microchips are up to date.

The plea comes to mark National Microchipping month, which is running throughout this month.

Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS) has started a campaign advocating for microchipping as a solid and permanent means of pet identification.

WRS provides services including environmental health and licensing services across the county.

Unlike collars, which can be lost or damaged, microchips stay with pets throughout their lives.

WRS animal welfare officer Pip Griffin said: "Micro-chipping matters as it increases the chances that we can reunite pets with their owners.

"It is also important to make sure the details on the chip are up-to-date.

"Please remember it is the law to microchip your dog and from this month, to ensure cats are chipped too.

"Your vet can help you fit a chip and update the details too."
