A BOXER stabbed twice through the chest during a knife attack said he would have been 'dead' had he not been a trained fighter.
Jon DP Shaw, speaking through his public Facebook page, said he believes his boxing skills helped save his life during an alleged knife attack on an industrial estate in Sherriff Street in Worcester.
The heavyweight boxer, who has a young son, is still recovering in Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester in the aftermath of the attack on Saturday morning with one witness saying Mr Shaw fought off two men, knocking one unconscious.
As previously reported, two men have appeared in court charged with attempted murder after the 33-year-old city dad was stabbed twice in the chest, suffering a collapsed left lung with the blade narrowly missing the arteries near his heart.
Mr Shaw walked up Newtown Road, a distance of nearly two miles, before presenting himself at A&E with injuries described as 'life-threatening'.
Mr Shaw, who has a three-year-old, said in a public Facebook post: "There is no place for this kind of sickening behaviour in our community. Attempting to take me away from my son.
"I am however happy that it was me in the position and not somebody else. I have no doubt that should I have not been trained, I would be dead now."
In another post, shared with friends and followers, he said: "Still here. Built different."
Mr Shaw is said not to be supporting any prosecution.
The blade involved is understood to be a large kitchen knife and a witness said verbal threats were also made against Mr Shaw during the incident.
