Plans to build an assisted living bungalow in the garden of a Malvern care home have been revealed.

But neighbours say the proposed building will spoil their enjoyment of their gardens and could affect the price of their properties.

Richard and Kim Anderson want to build a three-bedroom facility in the back garden of Matrixcare, a care home at 369 Worcester Road run by the charity National Star.

The proposed building would house the couple’s daughter, who has a number of specialist needs meaning she will always need to live in assisted living accommodation.

It will also have space for two other people with specialist needs.

According to its website, Matrixcare is home to “men with varying levels of disability”.

Planning documents show that although some of the care home’s amenity space would be lost to the proposed bungalow, the scheme would also involve cleaning up other parts of what is a large garden.

“There is a section to the northwest end of the garden that has been overgrown and unused for many years,” the plans say.

“As part of this scheme that area of ground will be cleared and turned into a usable area of external amenity space.

“This may include a sensory area and some raised beds for plants and vegetables to provide accessible gardening opportunities.

“The reinstatement of this area as usable garden space means that even with the development of the new dwelling the amount of external amenity space accessible to all residents at no 369 Worcester Road will be greater than the current situation.”

Neighbours in Queen Elizabeth Road, who back onto the property, are worried about the disruption that would be caused by the construction of the bungalow.

Phil Robson said: “The disruption caused by the construction will be unbearable and cause intrusion to our privacy.

“It will deter hundreds of nesting birds in the trees behind and disturb the local bat community.

“This will also be detrimental to the value of our property and should not be allowed.”

Jason Lawrence said: “This project cannot go ahead. We spend a lot of time in our garden and don’t want it spoiled in any way. It is also my opinion that this will have a detrimental effect on the value of my property.”
